Last Friday night (March 6), our Yeppoon store at 60 Normanby Street was the target of a devastating arson attack. The fire caused significant damage to the building, leaving our beautiful little shop unable to operate for the time being.
Over the past week we’ve been slowly processing what happened and working through the many decisions that follow something like this. Our Yeppoon shop has been such a special space for us — filled with flowers, creativity, celebrations and meaningful moments shared with our customers over the years — so seeing it damaged in this way has been incredibly difficult for our team and our family.
Police have since charged a woman in relation to the incident. She has been remanded in custody and will remain there until the next court mention in approximately three months’ time. While nothing can undo what has happened, we are grateful to the authorities for acting quickly.
What has truly carried us through this past week is the extraordinary kindness from our community.
The messages, phone calls, offers of help, food deliveries, coffees, hugs and encouragement from locals and fellow businesses have meant more to us than we can properly put into words. We feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a caring and supportive community here on the Capricorn Coast.
We would also like to say a very special thank you to Clayton and the team at Fight Fit Academy, who organised a GoFundMe to help us rebuild. The generosity shown through this effort has been deeply moving.
Sadly, while our stock and contents were insured, the building itself was not. This makes the road ahead more challenging, but the support we have received has reminded us that we are not facing it alone.
Right now we are exploring every possible option to get our Yeppoon shop up and running again. In the meantime, we are still here and still creating flowers for the community we love.
